We visited Villa Begur for two weeks at the end of May 2009. The high quality accommodation and the layout of the facilities provided many options for dining, relaxing and activity. When complemented by good weather, the choice for us to venture out and explore the surrounding area took some time to put into action but when we did, we found excellent beaches and restaurants and quiet and peaceful picturesque fishing villages within easy reach by car. Begur itself is an enchanting little place with good fresh food shops and a great range of restaurants banks and supermarkets. It has an idyllic charm. And with a daughter who likes to shop the local boutiques did not disappoint. The views from the castle and other view points in the town are quite spectacular. The villa itself is so well set up and travelling with toddlers is not easy. It was such a great help to have monitors and travel cots available to us not to mention the toy cupboard and TV/DVD player that helped keep the little ones out of the midday sun. We went to Villa Begur for a special family holiday, 11 in total. Villa Begar provided the perfect environment for everyone from a 1 year old to 64 year old to have a great time in and we all did! Thank You so much.

We had a fantastic week. The villa suited our large family party and the facilities were excellent Easy journey from Barcelona with good directions. A convenient location within walking distance of pretty Begur, and close to many beautiful beaches and coastal walks. The area is authentic and unspoilt.
We took others advice and ate at Pizzetta which was great for a big group. Agua Blava beach was bliss, we couldnt get the kids out of the water once they bought snorkels with holiday money. Gerona was well worth a visit.
It was a shame we could only stay for a week. Thanks Claudia for thinking of everything.

Dates: 12 - 19 September 2009.

The best thing I can say about our trip to Begur is that is exceeded our expectations in every department.

The villa is SUPERB. It's really quite vast but feels welcoming and comfortable from the moment you arrive. The facilities are great, particularly the sleeping areas, BBQ and various options for outside eating (depending on where the Sun happens to be at the time!). The terrace is fantastic for a big group since it has the same footprint as the property - it's huge. Also Claudia and Peter have done a great job with all the little details that are so often disappointing or overlooked (the book of guidance for guests, the quality / number of sun-loungers and so on).

The property is perfectly situated between the beautiful old town and the fabulous beeches. It really is a very special area and you will want for nothing.

Given the time of year we had great weather and spent our time doing as little as possible: Eating, drinking, sun bathing, reading... There was some running and a fairly vigorous table-tennis tournament between the boys (!!) but I will remember the holiday as being thoroughly restful and absolutely perfect!

I would recommend Villa Begur to anyone, particularly bigger groups who need space to relax.

We came from Barcelona and it only took a couple of hours AND what a special place Villa Begur is! The villa was very clean, spacious, light and well equipped. The welcome pack consisting of basic groceries and wine were a lovely touch greatly appreciated! The pool, outside dining area and view from the terrace and bedrooms are just fantastic. In fact it’s a little peace of heaven in the heart of arguably some of Spain’s most spectacular coastline. Its very hard to leave the luxury of Villa Begur but we soon realized that there is so much to see in the surrounding area – Pretty and quaint Begur itself is just a short walk and its well worth hiking up to the fort for the spectacular views. In addition to the beautiful beaches, coves and rocky coastline there are all sorts of sports on offer and cute villages to visit and if you want to culture bash there are museums too…. whether you want a relaxing or active holiday staying at Villa Begur caters
to all. It’s a perfect quiet retreat to take the family. I can’t fault our stay and would highly recommend Villa Begur, it’s a gem of a place.

Thanks to the Blandfords,

What a fantastic location to celebrate my 40th and my mum’s 60th birthdays. Perfect weather, lots of BBQs, delicious fresh fish and squid. Spoilt for choice with beautiful beaches nearby (Aguablava and Sa Riera our favourites) and the pool and terrace at the villa itself. Great to go for a swim when you first wake up – a wonderful way to start the day.

Begur itself is a charming town which really came alive for the Cuban festival at the beginning of September. We didn’t venture too far however as we were too busy relaxing or having fiercely competitive table tennis tournaments.

We’ll definitely be back if we get a chance (hopefully before the next big birthdays!!)

We had a super fortnight in your villa and really didn’t want to come home!

The spacious accommodation, location and Begur town were a perfect combination. The upper terrace was my favourite … the pool was lovely and deep, the views spectacular, the furniture was great and the bbq meant both children and adults were happy to keep time away from the villa to a minimum.

We visited most of the local beaches (usually just for a couple of hours), cycled up to the bakers via the castle every morning for croissants (such wonderful views), went scuba diving at Aiguablava, went on a testing half day mountain bike route near La Bisbal d’Emporda, spent one day at a waterpark and one day sightseeing in Barcelona. We visited the markets, enjoyed tapas in the square and ate out in Pizzeta (booking essential) and AiguaClara.

The weather was lovely (although occasionally windy) and we were grateful for the air conditioning in the bedrooms.

Thank you – we hope to pop back next year!

We have been to Begur before but this time was by far the best. Villa Begur was absolutely amazing, the website doesnt do it enough justice.
We were there for my daughters wedding, 9 adults and 2 children, we also had relatives staying in nearby hotels and there was more than enough room for them to visit us..Villa was very spacious, bedroom and bathrooms were 1st class, kitchen was very well equipped and plenty of storage. The villa was spotless when we arrived, then the cleaners came again midweek and did another fantastic job... We enjoyed the villa so much that so that we didnt need to go out every night, we barbecued on the roof terrace by the pool..... Home From Home....Cant wait to go back...

ps, thank you so much for everything, thanks for the new fridge, excellent service...

We have visited Begur many times, even owning a small apartment in La Borna for a while so the area was very familiar. This visit to Villa Begur however, was one of our best experiences yet, thanks to the superbly laid out Villa Begur (as other commentators have noted, the photos do not do the space justice) . The position was also excellent, allowing for all to have a drink at dinner and walk back from town and this more than made up for the slight road noise experienced in the morning and evening. My husband and I even drove in one evening when the hill seemed a bit steep and left the car in the car park to collect next day! My more energetic daughters also walked down to the supermarket in Riera for the morning croissants. Having five adults and one toddler the room mix was ideal and the lovely luxury en-suite bathrooms for all have spoilt us for any other villa not in the same class. We all commented on the pleasant different relaxing areas which meant we were together but not on top of one another.

A really excellent and generous welcome pack means that next time (and I am looking at dates for next year already) we will not bother with the supermarket stop on the way from the airport late in the evening.

Last but by no means least the fantastic pool terrace - safely out of the way of the toddler - was a delight both during the day and with lights and barbecue, in the evening.

We used this wonderful villa as a gathering place for our extended family. The house itself is just amazing with all the room and style one could ask for and views from top of the world. The layout is perfect for individual privacy when needed and all together fun times on the living level or on the pool deck. My granddaughters and sons enjoyed the ping pong and foosball in the garage on the one rain day we had. We walked into center plaza of Begur a number of times. Had great food and wine and interesting walks around the town. The view from the castle is not to be missed! We did day trips to many of the surrounding walled medieval and fishing villages and a boat ride on the Med.
Villa Begur is truly a lovely location for family and friends.

We wanted to get away somewhere nice and warm but without too long a flight in August 2007, and Begur was perfect. Very easy to get there with a short flight and a very easy transfer in a hire car (very good and easy service with Goldcar Europa, by the way). Absolutely loved the Villa. Very spacious, extremely well equipped (the best of any villa we’ve used before), clean and in a great location. The town is beautiful, and just a short walk up the hill, and we loved the beach, just a short car ride away. I can still very clearly, and fondly, picture breakfasts of pain au chocolat and croissants on the terrace with views down to the sea!!! Thanks so much Pete and Claudia. We had a fab time and can’t wait to get back there with our slightly extended family in 2008.

We were looking for an alternative Christmas for three generations of our family. We love Catalonia and set about finding suitable accommodation, we checked with Claudia regarding heating as three of our party are aged over 80 and after reassurance decided to book Villa Begur.

We expected to find a large, warm villa in a nice position, what we found by far exceeded this. The property is far more spacious than the web site conveys, particularly the bedrooms and is really comfortable in every aspect. As Claudia had described the heating was excellent. We really felt that it was a home rather than holiday accommodation. The kitchen is well equipped and we were able to enjoy leisurely evening meals after days out visiting favourite places. Evenings were spent playing cards or Yahtzee accompanied by a glass or two of wine. Christmas Day lunch at Sa Punta in Pals was superb. The food was excellent and the service very professional but friendly with lots of help with deciphering the menu with our limited understanding of Spanish. All in all an excellent alternative family Christmas.

In summary we would recommend the villa unreservedly and think it would be fantastic for a summer holiday, especially as it is within easy walking distance of Begur.

We expected to find the villa comfortable and well appointed, as the web
site so thoroughly introduces the house; however, it far exceeded our
expectations. The house is more spacious than it appears, and each room is
large and comfortable. We enjoyed the variety of outdoor spaces,
breakfasting on the sea-facing terrace daily, and taking advantage of the
other terraces for dinners. We were especially impressed and pleased to
discover how very wonderful the villa is for children. They loved their
rooms, and finding toys and children's books was such a gift. Of course,
everyone loved the pool, but it is not only enjoyable; it is also peaceful
and beautiful and simply a wonderful place to spend the hours the children
wanted to be there. We also spent happy time indoors, curled in front of
the TV and reading in the comfy arm chairs. We had a fantastic vacation,
and it was made easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable by Villa
Begur. Thank you! We can't wait to come back!!

Superb really sums up this place.  Both the villa and Begur were excellent.  Plenty of space in the villa, particularly with the new extension, allowing the family to really spread out.  The villa was well equipped to a very high standard and even an army of cleaners descended on the villa mid way through the stay to refresh the place.  We did experience a problem with the hot water at 6pm one evening and after speaking to the managing agents they had someone there to fix the problem within the hour.  A welcome relief when you have children to bath after the days activities. Begur is a great place if you like the quieter Spanish life.  With children and our parents it was a good combination.  The closest Beach at Sa Riera was getting an upgrade when we visited so we soon moved onto alternatives close by.  When it is completed, which was planned before the summer season, it will no doubt be excellent.  I’d never seen workmen in Spain work the long hours to get the job done to a deadline!  Our tip - the supermarket in Sa Sierra (short drive down hill) is well stocked and its opening hours were extensive.
In all … an excellent week.  I can’t praise it enough.  I would further add that when reviewing websites you never know whether it is going to be true to word … I can assure you it is.  We’ll be back!

Regards
Ian

comments: There were 5 of us, two couples and a friend so there was plenty of space for us all. The weather was just super, very warm about 25C so we sat on the terrace for breakfast every morning and sank cava by the pool every night! The welcome pack was excellent and really we lacked nothing in the villa at all.
If you want to walk the coastal paths or just walk down to Sa Tuna and back through the woods then this is the villa for you. Begur seems like real Spain and we ate there most evenings or in Palafrugell with just a touch of poor Spanish or even Catalan.
Everything was clean and very tidy and cleaned again during our stay as was the pool. We have no hesitation in recommending this villa to careful guests as you are sharing what is someone's much loved home but won't recommend it too highly as we want to be able to find a booking space next year!!!!!!!

As good as they are, the pictures on your site cannot demonstrate just what a fantastic setting the villa is in...look down ,and you view the rugged splendour of the Costa Brava coastline (a truly stunning way is to take lunch on the living room terrace), yet enjoy a barbecue / paella on the rooftop as the sun goes down and you can look upwards and catch the lights of the old castle and the flavour of a real Spanish town. The villa is beautifully kitted out, combining Spanish flair and style with a good sense of what makes a comfortable retreat for a family.

The huge rooftop pool and terrace kept all our children entertained by day and all our adults by night. Some, especially myself, enjoyed the best of both. We found getting around by hire car a doddle, with many good quality beaches within 10 minutes drive. Having quite small children, we mainly barbecued at the villa using local produce rather than eating out, and would highly recommend the local fish shop in the Town Square - be there about 7:00pm to get the best of the day's catch.
Unfortunately we had such a great time at or around the villa we didn't venture too far away .... something we hope to remedy next time we visit.

Stunning villa with fantastic views, comfortable accommodation and so much room that I kept losing our daughter in the first few days ( but always found her!)  We particularly liked the table tennis table and had lots of games over the two week period. Petanque was also popular in the evening. We walked into Begur several times and enjoyed good meals around the main square. recommendations for places to visit are  Besalu - medieval town a few miles past Banyoles on the c66- and Banyoles itself which has lovely lake which you can swim in - or go on a boat. -  We tended to stick to Sa Riera for beaches as we have decided it has the edge on Agua Blava - but I am sure it's a matter of taste. We had excellent Paella at the restaurant on the beach a sa Riera ( Miramar?)- much better than food at Agua Blava. A great holiday and perfect weather and the airconditioning was fabulous.  A special thanks to the pool man who helped to sort out any problems we had v promptly.

comments: Most enjoyable 2 weeks in a fabulous villa in a beautiful part of Spain.
This villa has everything you could wish for : convenient to several excellent beaches, close to some stunningly beautiful towns and only 1hour to France, 1.5hrs to Barcelona and 40 minutes to Girona.
The villa itself is very spacious and well equipped. The outside space is unbelieveable (the photos do not do it justice).
We would have no hesitation in recommending this villa.

Hallo! Better late then never..... We would like to tell the world about this fantastic villa. But then again.. What happens if we do? Maybe there won´t be any week for us to rent the next time!!! Anyway, we were there 2004 and had such a wonderful time. The kids just loved the pool on the roof, great! The only thing we would like to warn you about: Don´t order any pizza from the restaurant down by the beach, they are so small you can hardly find them in the pizzabox. Thank you so much for making us feel very welcome in your villa Tina, Trym, Linda, Sonja, Cathrin, Linda and Majken from Sweden and Norway

A fantastic week, in a truly superb villa with tons of space and wonderful views of the sea.
Weather much better than we had expected at this time of year, T-shirts and shorts for 5 of the 7 days, and we even spent 1 day on the beach (although the sea was still a little cold!)
Didn't leave the villa much (no need), apart from a daily 10 minute stroll into Begur for food shopping and tapas in one of the bars in the town square.
Beaches: Aiguablava, very beautiful little cove, but Sa Riera at the bottom of the hill is as good as most, with a good bar/cafe behind it.
Restaurants: Con Torrado - tucked away through a courtyard and up stairs, had a great meal here - huge steaks and fresh fish all for under 30euros a head including wine.

We stayed at your comfortabel house in October 2004.
We loved the views.
There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area.
For instance the Dali-museum and Girona.
One week was not enough to explore everything.
Even in October the sea was warm enough for swimming.
We had a very nice holiday.

I want to give you a sum up over our stay at your beautiful villa. We had great expectation in advance and they have certainly been fulfilled. We simply loved Begur with its narrow streets with its many restaurants and shops. And even with small children it is within walking distance. We selected to drive to beach Sa Riera, mainly because of the narrow and steep road. But we did not see that as a problem. The children were exited about the DVD's because most of them were dubbed into Norwegian. ("Stuart Little" was played at least twice a day)
If I should have some complaints, it must be the weather the first week, were we had several days with rain. ( Not the entire day though) But it didn't bother all of us :-)

But altogether we have had a perfect holiday in a perfect house and we feel a bit fortunate to have had the opportunity to rent your house. My wife and I would love to come back next year if you will have us. We have never felt that the location was more perfect than your house in Begur.

I had extremely high expectations of this villa, as I was
the member of our party who organised our trip.
My friends and Mum were completely blown away on arrival,
and all my expectations were truly surpased.

This is simply a gorgeous location, the view in themselves
are absolutely brilliant, and the villa is extremely welcoming
and homely. (Comments were made by all on the comfy couch,
which we retired to late in the evening to catch up on early
Sopranos episodes!)

We had an amazing time, and our whole group were
asking me if we could call Claudia to arrange our stay to be
extended!

We did a day trip to Barcelona as well, but decided that
rather than stress attacks due to traffic and the hassle of
parking, we made our way back to Girona airport to catch a
bus into Barcelona. It was only 16 euros return, and
illeviated much stress and wasted time searching for a car
park.

The tourist information centre in the airport has bus times.

I can't wait to return to this villa; only this time in
warmer months, so we can make more use of the roof top pool!

Thanks very much, we had a fantastic time and I keep meaning to drop you a note to say so (didn't want to delay returning the keys to wait for a letter to get written..!).

Begur is a fabulous location, nothing ritzy or fancy, just a quiet and pretty escape from it all. In the other direction from the villa, Sa Riera is lovely with plenty of beach space, yet still managing to seem small and unspoiled. There is a usefully sized supermarket in Sa Riera, (a bit like the tardis in that it is larger once you enter than you might guess from the outside).

Did you know the coastal path at the north end of Sa Riera's beach leads to a nudist beach in the next cove? Once I discovered this.. well, holidays are for trying new things, aren't they..? Of course there's only so long you can stay in the sun without putting suncream on and I'm only so brave, so it was time to pack up and head home :o)

My recommendations would include a walk up to the very top of the hill to the castle ruins in Begur, from where a 360 degree view of the surroundings is available.
Foodwise, the pizzeria in Begur (the one you pass on your way to the village square) was very nice and uncrowded. My favourite venue though was the Restaurant Fonda just up from the square in Begur. The fillet de Girona has to be tried!

The Dali museum near Figures got mixed reviews from those who visited. Long (90 mins) queues were a pain in the heat - one to visit early in the day I would say.

Llafranc, a few miles down the coast, was a very attractive and vibrant beach resort - larger than most but not spoiled.

Suggestions for additions to the villa? I'm struggling to think of anything but perhaps a better tin opener would be handy (perhaps I was just using yours wrong..) and a visitor's book would be a nice idea. I know that Porl (who phoned Peter) wanted more TV channels, but to my mind holidays aren't for watching TV!

So in conclusion, thanks very much for your assistance in making the arrangements. I'm sure it was a lot of hard work to get the place ready for occupation and we reaped the benefits, so thanks again

I thought it was an excellent spacious villa with lovely sea
views. It was also very comfortable and clean with great
facilities.
The swimming pool area was huge and great for barbecues
in the evening.
The beach was lovely and only a couple of minutes away by
car.

I thought Begur was a fantastic town with so much character and full of
and great for shopping.
My best bit was watching the world go by whilst sipping an
ice cold pre dinner beer on one of the terraces in the
square.
Thanks for a great stay, We'll come again!

What a fantastic place! Four adults and four children aged
4 and under stayed in this fully equipped and spacious villa
set in a beautiful location.

The children had hours of fun playing in the pool and when
it all got to much were able to relax watching tv and videos.

The great beaches are in walking distance and what made
it perfect is that the sea was crystal clear. It also had a
great little reef so the older children were able to learn
to snorkle.

Begur was beautiful with amazing restaurants and brillant tapas
bars.

Can't wait to go again!!

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Begur itself is gorgeous ; very picturesque and with loads of character.
The villa itself is huge. Cool decor, spotlessly clean with all appliances/ equipment within it all of excellent quality.
It was obvious that the owners treat the place as a home rather than just as an investment.
The nearby beach was clean and quiet, but we spent most days by the villa's swimming pool which not only provides an amazing sea-view but also caught a rather useful cooling breeze.
My 3.5 year old daughter would particularly like to recommend the swimming pool and the fact that the satellite tv receives CBeebies !!!

Actually we come from Hampshire, but Trinidad sounded more
exciting. The villa was great - big - great views - nice to see
the sea all the time. We didnt test the 'walk' to the beach.
Whilst we'd have skipped down full of fun and enthusiasm,
the consumption of excellent red wine the nights before would
have incapacitated us for such and endurance test of the
return trek. So we lay and absorbed to beautiful coast for
a little while longer. Such a pretty beach.

Barcelona was one and half hour drive at least, but one of
the most beautiful cities we've EVER seen. If you see nothing
else, go to Gaudi's Cathedral - Sagrada Familia. Truly amazing.
You need a week there. Full of one way streets - a good map showing
them would have saved us time driving. If you are walkers,
park near Guell Park (Gaudi's Garden) and walk down hill. We
took the metro back up - easy.

Hints (19/9/03):- Have 1.10 Euros ready for Autopista if you fly into
Girona and come off on Salida 6.
Barcelona was 5.40 euros, then a cheeky 1.06 euros which
caught us by surprise. Coins ready

All in all, a brilliant trip. Totally relaxing - Begur is a
pretty village. Great Tapas in the square. Comfy sofa!
Lovely pool. Nice villa. Home from home.
